Inventions and Innovations at Work

Ever wonder what it might be like to actually do a certain job?
Want to use your creativity to invent something?

Inventions and Innovations at Work (currently called “Exploring Careers”) is an elective offered to 7th grade students that explores the 16 career clusters and the inventions and innovations that impact the world of work.

Students work individually and collaboratively on real-world projects, similar to those of an individual in that career.  Additionally, students learn other important skills to prepare them for their future including financial management, budgeting, and resume writing.

Sample topics and student projects include:

  • Design a house (Architectural and Interior Design)
  • Prepare a healthy meal (Food production, preparation and presentation)
  • Investigate a crime scene (Forensics)
  • Create an advertising campaign and commercial (Product marketing and advertising)
  • Design and produce a logo and newsletter (Graphic arts)
  • Computer programming and security
  • Biotechnology
  • Creating Green Energy
  • Aeronautical Engineering NASA based projects
  • Amusement park ride design
  • And lots more!
